Power of Word

“Messages from Water” is a photo collection that was originally published in 1999. I took photographs of water crystals out of ice tip after freezing water. The book has gained international recognition as well as domestic reputation. It introduces many photographs of water crystals of natural water and tap water of all over the world. You can also see some things about which the conventional science cannot explain, such as the water crystal photographs of before and after showing certain words to water to study how the crystals transformed, and before and after letting water listen to certain music to study the crystal transformation. I also did experiment on how people’s conscious influences water by taking water crystal photographs. “Messages from Water” has been spreading globally. I think it’s because the messages that the photo collection carries such as “the importance of language,” “peoples thoughts transmit,” and “conscious changes substances” are appealing. In one of the experiments in the book, I introduced “the power of words and language” by using rice. Many children who learned its result did their own experiments in their own ways.

Saying “Thank you” and “You fool” to Rice Everyday

When delivering a presentation on the experiment that we did with the effects of language on water, one of the audience members told me that they were very impressed. This person also told me about an interesting experiment. This experiment involved placing cooked rice in two identical glass containers. Then he/she talked to the rice everyday saying “Thank you” to one and “You fool” to the other. He/she did this for one month to see the results. Two elementary school children talked to the rice everyday for one month as soon as they came home from school. As a result, the rice that the children had said “Thank you” to, was nearly fermented and had a nice mellow malted rice aroma. The other bowl of rice that the children had said “You fool” to, had turned black and had rotted. They said that its smell was disgusting beyond description.

“Thank you” to the jar right and “You fool” to jar left.

Of course this is not an experiment that an official research institute did, so the result could have been just a coincidence. However, many people have done the same experiment and they showed the same results.

Here, not only water but microbes seem to be involved. Microbes are just like us, they work hard if they are praised and become idle if they are abused.

It seems that by saying “Thank you” and “You fool”, the microbes have grouped into beneficial bacteria and disadvantageous bacteria.

“Experiment on Sunflowers with Words”

I grew sunflowers with “Thank you” and “You fool” water

A letter from a M.A.
Hello, excuse me for writing to you all of a sudden, Mr. Emoto. I found your article in a magazine this spring. I was surprised at the crystals that the letters “Thank you” and “You fool” were shown to. It was unbelievable.
Then I decided to grow sunflowers with that water for the summer holiday project.

Things I decided to do:

  • Growing them under the same conditions.
  • Not only by letters but also by speaking to the plants myself.
  • Watering the sunflowers with 200cc of water every morning and evening.

  1. June 2nd. On the envelope containing the seeds, the planting pots and the plastic bottles which I used for watering everyday, I wrote “Thank you” and “You fool” on each one of them.

  2. June 6th. I planted the seeds. Just in case, I had decided to grow two pots each.

  3. June 20th. Two of the “Thank you” pots sprouted. The stems and leaves of the “Thank you” pots were smooth and roundish. The “You fool” pot was spiky and had a reddish color. Is this for real? Or a coincidence?

  4. June 22nd. The “You fool” pot’s sprout came out. “I’m so happy!”
  5. June 25th. “Thank you” started to get roundish. “You fool” leaves were spiky.
  6. June 28th. “Thank you” were tall. “You fool” The leaves are bent and had holes. I’m worried! I want all of them to grow healthy but on the other hand, I want them to be different.

  7. July 2nd. “Thank you” started to have fur on the stems and looked like it would get taller than me. “You fool” leaves were crumpled up. But I feel there won’t be any difference.

  8. Looking at the cross section of the stems through a microscope. (The illustration below)

“Thank you” left and “you fool” right

From her mum’s letter: Thank you very much for replying to my child’s letter. Our whole family was astonished and got a shock from the crystal photos of water. My child grew sunflowers for the summer holiday assignment. It was a little burdensome for her to water them every day and observe them but somehow she was able to get results. Thank you.

Until a certain point, she took your advice, Mr. Emoto and talked to the plants. But since she is a child she started to wish “I don’t know why, but I feel sorry for the “You fool” sunflowers……I want them to flower without dying.” She was troubled because there wasn’t much difference in them, and at that point, we checked the cross section of the stems through a microscope. Then we found that the inside fibers of the “Thank you” stem were tightly filled with fine lumps (the fibers were packed tightly) and the “You fool” stem had big deformed lumps (there were spaces between the fibers).

We were also shocked to see the roots. There was such a difference between them, definitely. To be frank, it was shocking. I was wondering if this had been a case of ‘raising children’, what would have happened……I was scared.

What Words Experiment Means Is:

The most significant message of the photo collection of “Messages from Water” is that it connects us to our own awareness. Even if we hear wonderful stories or lectures, nothing can evoke our feelings so strongly but what we learn from your own experience. So, I believe that doing such experiments at homes and at schools in many places has a great significance. Also, they can be new materials for emotional education if we apply some original ideas.
